2010 Exploring Science Workshop for Teachers

The Exploring Science Workshop for Teachers is a professional development opportunity for teachers of all grade levels. Come to the campus of the University of Wyoming and explore the free resources offered by the University and learn to integrate inquiry into your teaching to promote curiosity in students through problem solving. 

At the 2010 Science Posse Exploring Science Workshop for Teachers you will:

·         Visit research labs on the campus to learn about current developments in a variety of fields and see real scientists in action. You will tour:

·         The Science Posse Graduate Fellows' labs

·         The Microscopy Core Facility

·         The Western Research Institute's 22-acre Advanced Technology Center north of Laramie

 

·         Learn about the Science Posse's statewide outreach so you can bring real scientists to your classrooms.  You will see firsthand:

·         Research Talks

·         Career Talks

·         Science Demonstrations

·         Science ALIVE! Units:

§  CSI: Wyoming~ Murder in Yellowstone

§  CDC: Wyoming~ The Twin Pines Mystery Illness

§  Our newest unit, unnamed as yet, based on a Mythbusters scenario

·         Our newest project Bringing the Field into the Classroom: Interactive Studies in Field Ecology which allows students to use a Science Posse member's actual data to make and test hypotheses.

 

·         Learn about the nature of inquiry and how to efficiently and effectively integrate inquiry into your teaching to transform your students into real scientists. You will:

·          Complete the five workshops of the Fundamentals of Inquiry developed by the Institute for Inquiry® located at the Exploratorium® in San Francisco, CA. led by Posse members who have been trained in San Francisco.

·         Experience inquiry through hands-on investigation, reflection, and group discussion.

·         Understand the essential features and structure of inquiry and how to incorporate it into your teaching.

·         Leave the workshop with a lesson from your own curriculum which you have transformed to include inquiry.

All costs, including UW Enrichment credit, are paid by the Science Posse!
